Energy efficiency improvement @ Novotema
Novotema has chosen the path of sustainable development and it’s now pursuing it with a new project, currently in progress. This project has plenty of goals: increase of energy efficiency, waste reduction, reduction of the environmental impact, lowering energy consumption and, last but not least, cost savings.
Novotema has chosen the path of sustainable development and it’s now pursuing it with a new project, currently in progress. This project has plenty of goals: increase of energy efficiency, waste reduction, reduction of the environmental impact, lowering energy consumption and, last but not least, cost savings.
The partner chosen by Novotema for this task is the company “save NRG Srl” from Milan. Thanks to them, Novotema passed through an “energy audit” phase, during which an accurate analysis of the current state of energy consumption and waste has been performed. We then moved on to the second phase: the evaluation of improvement actions.
Once the most appropriate tools to improve Novotema's energy efficiency have been identified, then the installation started.
The search for the right partner for this project has been managed by Salvatore De Marco, Novotema's Investment and Technical Office Manager, while Fabio Agazzi, Novotema's Facility-Maintenance and Energy Manager, is now coordinating the new system implementation.
The installation of the devices that will guarantee Novotema’s energy efficiency improvement started in February, the second part was installed in April. Third and last device will be installed at the beginning of June, thus completing the assembly phase.
The machines to increase energy efficiency have been installed at Novotema electrical substations and work downstream of the transformers. The system, called 3e, optimizes the voltages by adapting it to the real company needs. 3e technology impacts on excess voltage. The system is coordinated by an integrated monitoring device, which can read the consumption and ensure the reduction of energy waste and losses.
The benefits of the new system installed are many: technically, the voltage is stabilized by optimizing and reducing power peaks, in this way energy losses and waste can be minimized.
Furthermore, it is possible to extend the life span of the components and to eliminate potential downtime or damages due to over voltages.
It is therefore possible to increase the efficiency of activities and processes, by using resources in a more rational way: this will also reduce the company's exposure to the risks of sudden changes in energy prices.
The reduction of CO2 emissions is another effect of the energy efficiency and it’s estimated in 240 tons per year, equivalent to 160 trees planted.
All of this of course without compromising at all the performances of the production machineries.
After connecting the new devices and setting them up, the system will require very little maintenance and will be controlled remotely. This will allow Novotema and save NRG Srl staff to monitor easily and in real time the level of energy efficiency achieved as well as any issue possibly arising.
Attention to environmental topics, energy efficiency and waste reduction are vital goals for the future of our planet and our business and therefore are essential targets for Novotema, which is also certified for the environmental management system according to ISO 14001 standard.
