A journey through Novotema: the mold design
One of most distinctive Novotema peculiarities is supporting the customers with the design and construction of the mold for the production of their sealing solution. This contributes to making Novotema the ideal partner to support you in the development of the heart of your project.
One of most distinctive Novotema peculiarities is supporting the customers with the design and construction of the mold for the production of their sealing solution.
This contributes to making Novotema the ideal partner to support you in the development of the heart of your project. We are able to follow our customers along every stage of the process: from the co-design of the sealing solution to the design and construction of the mold, until to the delivery of the finished sealing solution.
In order to design a mold, it is necessary to clarify details such as the geometry to be created, which material will be used and which type of press will be used to mold the gasket.
Starting from these elements, our technical department will start defining the configuration of the mold and the number of cavities.
Our experts will then move on to the creation of flow simulations using dedicated software which will be very useful to avoid some critical issues that could arise during the process, such as, for example, the formation of air bubbles, excessive porosity, an excess of burr, deformations or burns. Furthermore, these simulations will be used to predict an optimal cycle time also in order to accurately estimate all costs and therefore provide accurate quotations. Through the simulations it will then be possible to finalize the most appropriate number of mold cavities and also determine the most suitable feeding channels for a high quality product.
In Novotema, thanks to our internal workshop and highly qualified personnel, we can also take care of the preparation of the mold and all the necessary optimization and maintenance phases.
Generally we start from a prototype mold with a reduced number of cavities. We use this to produce the first samples so that customers can perform their own functional tests. If the sealing solution satisfies the technical requirements, then it will be possible to move on to the production of the series mold.
What makes a mold perfect?
First of all, the choice of the most suitable material: in fact, there are suitable steels that can help mitigating some critical issues. Then there are specific treatments for each type of steel. The number of cavities must be appropriate and the feed channels balanced with efficient and qualitatively advanced molding. Furthermore, the sizing of the mold must be well calibrated.
Last but not least, let's not forget that it is also essential to keep under control the cost of the mold.
Our workshop is able to carry out rapid interventions for any modifications if they become necessary and takes care of the cleaning and maintenance of the molds so that the quality of the products always remains high and responds to the needs of our customers and their projects.
